Camp Stanley

Friend Al,

I wrote you a letter when I was in Franklin and received no answer and I thought I would try you again. I am in first rate health pork and crackers agree with me about as well as ever. Times are dull nothing going on of any importance. I am driving team now and have six mules to take care of. The health of the troops are first rate as far as I can find out. We had lots of secesh prisoners when we first came to Murfreesboro but they have been sent off to Camp Chase. Some of them was sassy as a hound pup. A fellow in the 11th Michigan knocked one ass over stomach for pushing him off the sidewalk. Our brigade is out on a scout. They made a saber charge in to Unionville some two weeks ago and you could see lots of butternuts laying around with bloody heads. One fellow had his nose cut off as nice as you please. I guess old Rosey will make a move soon and then look out for fun and a big skedaddle, a great many of the rebels are deserting. A good many from Tennessee. How is Dale Krugh getting along? I heard he got religion. Is it so? One thing it won’t hurt him much.. Captain [Samuel] Hibler has resigned on account of bad health. The second lieutenant of Company C is our captain now. He is a very nice fellow and will stick to a fellow in a fight., But I must close hoping to hear from you soon. From your friend E. H. Genzel.

Direct care of Captain Greno,
Company H, 7th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry
