Privacy Policy : At Excelsior Brigade we seek to provide product, services and offers of value to you. We use information from our interactions with you to help us achieve that goal. We also recognize and respect your privacy. Accordingly, we have procedures intended to ensure your personal information is handled in a safe, secure and responsible manner.

Specifically, we use your information to help you complete a transaction, to communicate back to you, and to update you on services and products. At no time will we sell, rent or lease your personally identifiable information to others without your permission.

Excelsior Brigade is committed to ensuring the security of your information. To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy and ensure the appropriate use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.

When you place an order with a credit card, we use Secure Socket Layering (SSL) to encrypt your personal information, including your credit card number, before it travels over the Internet. SSL technology is the industry standard for secure online transactions.

Sales Policy : The Excelsior Brigade offers items in an on-line site at, and at several major Civil War shows every year.

We maintain two separate inventories: one exclusively for the site, and one for shows and individual offerings. At all times, we try to stock at least one thousand identified images, as well as hundreds of letters, documents and other items we think will be of interest, such as currency and tokens, veterans/reunion material, and buttons. We strive to maintain a level of quality above the average. We know this is a crowded market and that Civil War collectors today have many outlets from which to choose. We believe that there is always room in any market for the best, and we try hard to fill that niche, especially in terms of our area of specialty, which is identified images.

When The Excelsior Brigade was first established, we made several important policy decisions about pricing and other matters. Our decisions reflected our personal philosophies and were influenced greatly by our experiences as long-time collectors. We chose policies which reflected what we as collectors wanted to see in dealers. To paraphrase the “Golden Rule” we chose to deal with others, as we would have others deal with us.

First and foremost, our philosophy is represented in our motto, “Integrity Quality Service”. We adhere strictly to that statement. No sale regardless of potential profit would cause us to veer from our absolute commitment to those values. Our clients may be assured that we will never compromise on those precepts.

A related principle is that we work to treat each and every client fairly. That belief is represented no place better than in our view about pricing of items on our site.

All items displayed on our site, whether by our own initiative or upon request, are posted at a fixed best price. We do not entertain alternate offers on those items, and the prices posted are the prices offered to all who view the items. We believe this is important and consistent with our emphasis on integrity and service - our clients can be confident that any item posted is offered to all under the same conditions. In that way all are assured of a fair opportunity to purchase an item with no single party having an advantage over any other. We have not and do not make exceptions to this policy.

Occasionally, we will post items to the site based upon individual requests. But even in those cases, the items are listed at a pre-determined fixed best price. Should the requestor choose not to purchase the item it is still available to all others under exactly the same terms.

At the same time, we are able to entertain individual requests at shows, by e-mail, or in other ways that do not involve the public site. In those cases, we may be open to negotiations based upon the item(s) in question; however, in such cases, any negotiated terms apply only to the individual with whom we are engaged and remain in effect only for a fixed amount of time. Should an item under discussion be posted to the site in order for the requestor to view and consider that item, the price at which it is listed is the fixed best price to the requestor and to all others.

Our site is constantly under review, routine updating and maintenance. We reserve the right to add or withdraw an item from the site at any time, and to change prices on items listed there without notice.

As noted elsewhere, The Excelsior Brigade unconditionally guarantees all items and client satisfaction is a key goal.

While some of our policies at The Excelsior Brigade may seem unusual to some, we believe them to be fair and consistent with out motto, “Integrity, Quality, and Service”.

Return Policy : We have a three-day inspection period from date of delivery during which items maybe returned. All items are guaranteed to be authentic and as described. If otherwise, the full purchase price will be promptly refunded to the purchaser upon return of the item to us in the same condition as when sold. Items may be returned in as sold condition for any reason with prompt refund of the purchase price less a 10% restocking charge. The sender is responsible for any damages that occur in shipment, thus, all items returned must be insured. All credit card purchases must be refunded by credit card. If the item returned is altered or damaged in any manner, adjustments will be made prior to refund being granted.

Packing & Shipping : Our primary carriers are the U.S. Postal Service and U.P.S. We generally ship U.S. Priority Mail. Buyer is responsible for all shipping, handling and insurance fees. They will be determined based on item(s) value, weight, size and delivery destination. Large and heavy material or items requiring special packaging will be more. Each order has a $5.00 minimum handling charge. Shipping outside the Continental US will be accompanied by required documentation. Shipping charges for packages outside the Continental US will be determined dependent upon destination.

Payment : We accept certified checks, money orders, personal or business checks (10 day clearance) made payable to The Excelsior Brigade as well as Visa, and MasterCard credit cards. Payment must be received before material will be shipped. Allow at least 15 business days for personal checks to clear the bank. The current Virginia sales tax will be added to your total if you are ordering from Virginia.
