Description
Two Original Civil War promotion warrants for Adam Smith. Warrants are for Corporal and 3rd Corporal. The warrant to corporal is signed by Colonel Hiram L. Brown who also served in the 83rd Pennsylvania Infantry. Brown was Wounded and captured at Gaines' Mill, VA and captured a second time at Petersburg, VA. He also commanded the 145th on the field at Gettysburg. Received a brevet promotion to Brigadier General. The second warrant is signed by Lieutenant Peter W. Free, who was captured at Chancellorsville.Other signatures include Lieutenant Thomas Lee and Captain Charles W. Lynch ( Who became Colonel of the regiment in 1865).
