Original Civil War document dated December 11, 1861. Document is a Certificate of Disability for Private William E. Swasey of the 12th Massachusetts Infantry. Document is signed by Colonel of the regiment, Fletcher Webster, son of Statesman and Senator Daniel Webster. Colonel Webster was killed in action at the Battle of 2nd Manassas. Document is also signed by Regimental Surgeon Jedediah H. Baxter and Captain David Allen, who was wounded at Antietam and killed at the Wilderness.
