Original Civil War document discussing the medical disability of 2nd Lieutenant Oscar B. Ireland (U.S. Signal Corps). Document is signed by Surgeon Henry W. Owing of the 2nd Maryland Eastern Shore Infantry. Owing also served with the 4th Maryland Infantry.

I hereby certify that 2^nd Lieutenant O. B. Ireland, Signal Corps, U.S. Army, is suffering from debility consequent upon fever and is not in condition to travel.  I further declare my belief that he will not be able to proceed to the front, in obedience to orders from War Department, A.G. Office, in a less period than ten days.
