Illustrated song sheet "When this Cruel War is Over" published by James D. Gay, a celebrated Army Song Publisher, formerly of the Ringgold Artillery of Reading, PA.
According to a brief biography, Gay was the man whop carried the first soldier's mail from Washington to Pennsylvania on April 19, 1861 and was chased by Rebels across the Baltimore Pike. He also watched General Lee with a telescope, for three hours on May 15, 1861 and gave information to the War Department which prevented the Confederates from taking Arlington Heights.
