Original Civil War Prisoner of War Confederate letter, 1 page written in period ink.

Fort Delaware
November 6th 1864

My Dear cousin,

Your welcome letter of the 29th was received several days since and this morning the two books for which please accept my sincere thanks. I shall while away many pleasant hours over them which otherwise may have been spent in sad reflections upon my unfortunate condition. I do think there is a peculiar style about your letters. The kindness of any cousin is highly appreciated and will never be forgotten by me. Our life is exceedingly monotonous and yours more irksome to me every day. We are however hoping for an early exchange and we think the prospect look more favorable than they have once. Have had no letter from brother since I last wrote you. But the latest news I have of him is that in a recent charge of the regiment, his girth broke and he lost his saddle, though escaped successfully on bareback. We are having some very cold weather. This morning the ground was doused with frost and there was considerable ice. Though we are tolerably comfortable having just received stoves. Please present my kind regards to all and believe me as ever,

Your affectionate cousin,

F. C. Boston
