Mr. C. A. Hege

My Dear Sir,

I received your kind and interesting letter this morning and was very glad to hear from you and to hear that you was well. I am tolerable well at this time and sincerely hope these few lines may find you enjoying good health and I am very glad to hear from my old neighbors Harrison Crouse and Joseph Chanouse and the rest then are they going to remain north or not. I think I must write to them and hear something from home of the old neighborhood news. I have none, but I hope I shall soon be released so that I may come out to Bethlehem where I could get some butter and cheese. For if I ever get out I am bound to have some cheese and butter and biscuits. We have a beautiful fine day to day and no way to spend the Sabbath only in the hospital as any other day as we never have any preaching here anymore. I must soon come to a close. I am glad to hear that Mr. Shultz arrived safely at Bethlehem.

I have some wounds to dress so you must excuse my hasty writing and spelling. I hope this bloody and cruel war may soon cease and peace and prosperity reign over the whole land as I think the present rebellion will soon be blotted out.

I must close. Direct your next letter as before, only say Hospital Ward No. 8 instead of Ward 7. Write soon.

I remain your true and humble friend,
Edward Mock
