Original Civil War Confederate enlistment document. Dated August 6, 1861 at Lenior County, North Carolina. The enlistee is Private Henry Hines, who was captured at Fort Hatteras on August 29, 1861 and sent to Fort Warren Prison. Paroled in 1862, he was later captured at Fort Fisher on January 15, 1865 and confined at Elmira, NY where he died on March 26, 1865.
