Dear wife and daughter

I am still well and hope you are both in the enjoyment of usual health. I write you this morning to let you know what my prospects are. I seen General Imboden [and] he told me my only chance was to go to Richmond that there had men joined some of his company. I had been sent after and taken out again. I seen Colonel Radwin. He give me a few lines to Colonel Shield which may be of some advantage to me in getting back to the valley. I feel perfectly resigned hoping it will all work right yet. We will start down this morning. I want you not to fret or be uneasy about me. I will try to take the best care of myself [that] I can. I have only to write a few lines. I will write soon again.

Yours most affectionately
John H. Kiracofee
